As energy bills strain households in Virginia and New Jersey, President Donald Trump is urging voters to back Republicans Jack Ciattarelli and Winsome Earle-Sears, claiming only a GOP victory can deliver relief at the polls this November.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said that voting Republican “means a drastic drop in energy prices and energy costs” but that voting for a Democrat would mean a drastic rise in energy prices and cost and that not voting at all is “the same thing as voting for a Democrat.”
President Trump finished his Truth Social Post with “SO, GO TO THE POLLS AND CUT YOUR ENERGY COSTS IN HALF!” President Trump’ s comments touch on a hot topic in both New Jersey and Virginia as energy prices continue to climb. In New Jersey prices were 22% higher this July when compared to energy prices in July of 2024.
However, Southwest Virginia voters will soon be seeing a 24% reduction to the cost of their energy bill in some parts of the state as soon as Nov. 1st thanks to recent legislation by Republican Senator Mark Peake and Republican Delegate Jason Ballard. In a statement Senator Peake said “We put a lot of focus on it. We passed some legislation to help them out, to help them lower the rate payers’ fees, and it looks like they are able to do that. This looks like a permanent reduction currently because they have been able to lower their fuel costs.”
George Porter, a spokesperson for Appalachian Power said “We hear what our customers are feeling about us, and we understand that, you know. We are empathetic to that, so to be able to finally do something in a positive direction for our customers and give them the relief that so many of them desperately need, it’s a great feeling.”
