“Disgusting Hypocrisy”: Cordoza Torches Jones, Redistricting Stun

“Abhorrent.” “No integrity.” Delegate A.C. Cordoza isn’t holding back on Attorney General nominee Jay Jones — or Democrats’ election-week redistricting push.

We caught up with Delegate Cordoza at a campaign stop on Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears’ statewide bus tour, where he spoke candidly about his accomplishments, his faith, the Jay Jones text messages, and what he called a “sham” redistricting effort by Democrats in the General Assembly.

When asked about his greatest personal and professional achievements, Cordoza pointed to both his faith and his work on behalf of public safety. “My greatest professional accomplishment is the CODI Alert, which has, as of Monday, saved 41 children,” Cordoza said.

“These are endangered or kidnapped children that have been returned home safely thanks to the CODI Alert, which has it as the most effective—100% so far. And then of course, my personal greatest accomplishment is my discovery and being saved by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

On Jay Jones’ violent text messages, Cordoza didn’t mince words. “I found them absolutely abhorrent. It was quite disturbing. And the fact that he is still in the race, that he has not dropped out, that shows the least amount of integrity,” he said.

“I would have said, I should get out of this race. But apparently that isn’t present with him. Look, I was told if you don’t have anything to say that’s nice, you should probably keep it to yourself. That’s what my mother taught me. I can’t speak for what he was taught as a child. But that is not the Virginia way.”

When asked about the redistricting maneuver being discussed in the final days before the election, Cordoza was blunt. “It’s a horrible sham. It’s a waste of taxpayers’ money,” he said.

“The redistricting efforts are not going to work. They know that. But they’re going to waste time. They’re going to grandstand to the greater Democratic populace in the country to get some fundraising dollars coming in. And they’re going to try and pull us off the campaign trail, which is disgusting. And if they were somehow to be successful, this would be the biggest usurpment of the voters in the history of our country. It is absolutely abhorrent. And for them to call themselves Democrats while trying to override the democratic process—I’m made speechless by their level of hypocrisy.”

Delegate A.C. Cordoza represents the 86th House of Delegates District, which includes Poquoson City and parts of both Hampton City and York County. First elected in 2021 by just 94 votes, Cordoza faces another tight race this cycle as he works to retain his seat and return to the General Assembly in January.

Delegate A.C. Cordoza is running against Virgil Thornton, Sr. who is focused on public education.
