In Virginia’s 47th House District, where Donald Trump won 76% of the vote in 2024, Delegate Wren Williams focuses on serving the faithful, hardworking residents of Southwest Virginia.
Williams, first elected in 2021 after defeating seven-term incumbent Charles Poindexter, represents Patrick, Carroll, Floyd counties, Galax City, and parts of Henry County. He emphasizes the urgent need to restore rural healthcare in his district.
“Yes, the biggest issue for our community right now is definitely rural health care,” Williams said. “Our local hospital with our emergency room shut down back in 2017, and we’ve been struggling to find new ownership to take that over with its rural nature and our limited number of residents in this community. It’s not the most attractive thing for larger hospital networks, but luckily we have found somebody who is willing to take on the task and they are moving along very well.”
He also highlighted the resilience and grit of his constituents: “These people here in my community really have grit. They have a passion and a faithfulness for their life here in the rural part of Virginia… They survived and they’re resilient and they keep growing and they keep pushing forward and they really just try to do the best they can for their families and their community. And so I’m proud of that. I’m proud to be somebody who comes from that.”
On his personal legacy, Williams said, “I want people to remember me as somebody who was willing to work and provide and dedicate his life to his family and his community and make sure that he was doing anything he could to bolster them and provide for them and help them grow and have a wonderful life as short as it is on this earth before… seeking our eternal life in heaven.”
In a district with a strong Republican base—Trump 76.4%, Harris 22.7%—Williams continues to campaign on preserving community values, improving local healthcare access, and honoring the enduring spirit of Southwest Virginia.
Williams’ Democratic challenger is Yvonne Rorrer, who is running for the 47th District. Rorrer emphasizes education investment, mental‑health advocacy, affordable housing, and workforce development in rural communities.
