Democratic Rep. Eugene Vindman won reelection in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, defeating Republican challenger Doug Ollivant. The Associated Press called the race on Tuesday evening.
Vindman campaigned on lowering household costs, protecting abortion access and supporting federal workers. During his first term, he helped introduce bipartisan legislation to prohibit public officials from trading individual stocks and participating in political prediction markets. He also backed legislation to limit how frequently electric utilities could request rate increases. Ollivant emphasized strengthening border security, supporting veterans and advancing a foreign policy focused on American security and global stability.
The Cook Political Report rated the race Likely Democratic heading into the election. Vindman first won the seat in 2024, succeeding Democrat Abigail Spanberger after she opted to run for governor. His reelection secures another two-year term in Washington and keeps the district in Democratic hands.
