As scenes of riots in the street of Los Angeles flooded the news, Governor Glenn Youngkin issued a stark warning to “No Kings” protestors that violence would not be tolerated in Virginia.
“I want to be really clear, crystal clear, that there will be zero tolerance for any violence, for any destruction of personal property, business property, for disrupting traffic and putting people’s live in danger,” Youngkin said ahead of the planned demonstrations.
The latest round of Anti-Trump violence has already cost the city of Los Angeles nearly $20 million including destroying police cars and torching at least five of Google’s Waymo driverless taxis.
With protests planned across the state, Youngkin activated members of the Virginia National Guard to support local and state police. (RELATED: Illegal Immigrant Accused of Incest with Teenager Captured by ICE After Release from Virginia Jail)
Representatives from Indivisible Charlottesville, a liberal organization promoting the demonstrations framed “No Kings” as a nonpartisan organization supporting democracy, opposing the election of President Trump, and advocating for abortion and against cuts in government spending.
Youngkin’s warnings were largely heeded as protests throughout Virginia occurred with minimal incident. Images from the weekend’s protests provided a stark contrast to the video of earlier demonstrations in LA where fireworks and other projectiles were lodged at police.
Counter protestors also made appearances at No Kings rallies around the state supporting President Trump, immigration enforcement, and efforts to balance the federal budget. (RELATED: Governor and Attorney General Order Investigation Into Loudoun County Schools Over Sexual Harassment Issues)
