Virginia Woman Donates Entire $150,000 Lottery Winnings to Charity
Carrie Edwards of Midlothian gives her Virginia Lottery prize to three organizations close to her heart.

When Carrie Edwards of Midlothian won $150,000 in the September 8 Virginia Lottery drawing, she immediately knew what she wanted to do — give it all away.

“As soon as that divine windfall happened and came down upon my shoulders, I knew exactly what I needed to do with it,” Edwards told Richmond’s WRIC. “Because I’ve been so blessed and I want this to be an example of how other people, when they’re blessed, can bless other people.”

This week, Edwards donated her entire winnings to three charities that reflect her life, faith, and service to others with the Daily Signal.

A portion of the money went to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, a cause deeply personal to Edwards. The organization researches cures and treatments for dementia-related illnesses, including the condition that took her husband’s life. She also donated to Shalom Farms, a Richmond-area nonprofit farm and food pantry where she volunteers. The organization grows and distributes hundreds of thousands of servings of fresh produce each year to families in need across central Virginia.

Her third donation went to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, which provides financial, educational, and emergency support to active-duty service members, veterans, and their families. (RELATED: 116 MPH Joyride: Dem AG Hopeful Jones Worked Off Sentence by Helping His Political Machine)
