Sean Steinway has lived a no nonsense life as a marine, police officer, DEA contractor, sheriffs’ deputy, and small business owner. His next objective? Serving Virginia in the House of Delegates.
While in Fredericksburg for a morning campaign event we met Sean Steinway who is running for office in the 65th House of Delegates District. The 65th is made up of the localities of Fredericksburg and parts of both Stafford County and Spotsylvania County.
We caught up with him at the conclusion of the event and talked to him about what issues matter most to him, what inspires him about Virginia, and what he wants people to remember about him.
When talking about the issues that matter most to him he said “Mental health is one of the key things. Education … lowering taxes for our constituents” He continued “And I’ll give you another one. I think the juvenile system is one of the biggest things for me as well.”
We asked Steinway what his greatest personal accomplishment is. He said, “Becoming a father … I’m the father of five kids”
We then asked Steinway what his greatest professional accomplishment is. He said “I think being a Marine, that’s something that changed my life.”
When talking about what his goal is he said “My whole life, I’ve been serving and I think that by being a Delegate, that would be my next step. I think that I could be able to serve more people … that’s the reason why I’m doing it.”
We asked Steinway what is something that inspires him about Virginia and he said “ The people. And actually seeing the change that’s been going on”
Steinway did not hold back when talking about Attorney General Nominee Jay Jones’ text messaging scandal where Jones fantasized about killing a colleague and his children saying “As a law enforcement officer, I can tell you right now, I wouldn’t want him as my command, absolutely not.”
We then asked Steinway about his thoughts on the redistricting efforts that were underway in the General Assembly. He said “I think they’re scared and I think that’s why they’re doing it. They’re trying to remove people because they’re scared. That’s the truth.”
Then we concluded our interview by asking Steinway what he hopes people remember about him. He said “My commitment and dedication.”
The 65th House of Delegates is currently represented by Delegate Joshua Cole who was re-elected to the House of Delegates in 2023 after being defeated by Delegate, now Senator, Tara Durant in 2021.
