LoCo Fest is set to illuminate the Labor Day weekend once again, bringing together a dynamic blend of established and emerging musicians at 868 Estate Vineyards near Hillsboro. Now in its seventh year, the day-long festival not only showcases local music but also supports the artists financially, with proceeds aimed at funding grants for equipment and other essentials.
Winery co-owner Nancy Deliso views the festival as a pivotal part of her ongoing effort to promote the local music scene. “It’s about raising money and introducing young performers to Loudoun audiences,” Deliso explained. Notably, past performers include Lillian Hackett and Sela Campbell, who graced the festival’s stage as teens and later appeared on this year’s season of American Idol.
The festival also serves as a creative melting pot, where musicians on the Loudoun circuit can connect and collaborate. This year’s lineup of 18 acts features a mix of new faces and festival veterans. Among them are Loudoun Youth Battle of the Bands winner Downe Lands, and up-and-comers Emilia Battaglia and Nick Demolay. Gary Smallwood, Mike Ault, Laura Cashman, Todd Brooks, and Delta Spur are returning favorites, while The Darby Brothers and Ramona, debuting a tribute to The Ramones, are new additions.
Todd Brooks, a festival co-founder, cherishes the community spirit of the event. “The more people we have, the more money we have available to help our local musicians,” he said, emphasizing the importance of audience turnout for fundraising.
Festival attendees can enjoy performances from noon to 9 p.m., with offerings from Lost Rhino Brewery and various food trucks available. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and pop-up tents for comfort. Tickets are priced at $25 in advance and $30 at the gate.
