Virginia Man Arrested In Shooting of Tik-Tok Teen
A late-night prank turned into a murder after a homeowner opened fire on Fredericksburg teens.

Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s office has arrested Tyler Chase Butler (27) and charged him with second degree murder along with other crimes after a Tik-Tok prank went wrong.

Saturday night, police responded to a call for a house burglary in which a resident fired on the alleged burglars. They arrived to find Michael Bosworth (18) and a juvenile shot plus another juvenile unharmed. Bosworth was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The juvenile only sustained minor injuries.

Videos seized from the phones of Bosworth and the juveniles showed the trio had pranking residents along McKenzie Lane in Fredericksburg, VA, with a game of ding-dong-ditch, where they rang doorbells and then hid. The game was being documented for Tik-Tok when Butler allegedly opened fire on the pranksters.

Bosworth was a senior at Massaponax High School and played for the school’s lacrosse, wrestling, and football teams. Saturday was prom night for Massaponax School.

Butler told detectives that the teens were trying to kick in the door to his house at approximately 3:00 am. The teens claimed to have been searching for a hiding place during the prank when Butler opened fire.

Bosworth was described by classmates as a passionate person who always spoke up.

Butler is held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
