78 Sheriffs Endorse Jason Miyares for AG
Miyares has promoted law enforcement throughout his campaign, while Jones has focused on gun control to solve crime.

Attorney General Jason Miyares announced the endorsements of 78 Sheriffs from across the Commonwealth.

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of 78 sheriffs—two-thirds of all sheriffs across Virginia—for re-election as Attorney General!” said Miyares in a statement announcing the endorsements. “They’ve seen how soft-on-crime laws endanger their communities and the deputies who serve them. They know what works—and they know I’ve delivered.”

“I’ve served as sheriff of Gloucester County for nearly 14 years, and in that time, I have never seen an attorney general more committed to supporting law enforcement than Jason Miyares,” said Sheriff Darrell Warren, Jr.

Hopewell Sheriff Travis Stanley credited Miyares’s “Ceasefire Virginia” program with reducing the murder rate by more than 60% in Hopewell. (RELATED: Virginia AG Statistics Shock: Previous Administration Caused Crime Spike)

“Because of Jason’s leadership—and because of a partnership rooted in action, not just words—Hopewell is stronger and thriving,” Stanley said. “AG Miyares is a leader who doesn’t just talk the talk, but walks the walk. In law enforcement, that’s the ally you want.”

Ceasefire Virginia is a partnership between state and local law enforcement to target repeat violent offenders in high-crime neighborhoods. Ceasefire Virginia also engages local community leaders and federal officers to help gather intelligence, prosecute offenders, and stop violence before it starts.

Miyares’s strong support among law enforcement contrasts with his opponent, Democrat Jay Jones, who ran into conflict with officers during his prior tenure in the General Assembly. Jones drew fire for authoring a bill to remove legal protections for law enforcement while on duty.

While a Delegate, Jones advocated for reduced prison time for armed robbery and assault convictions and Virginia Progressive Legislative Alert Network ranked him the 5th most Progressive member of the House in 2021.
