Republican candidate for lieutenant governor John Reid debuted a new coalition of Democrat officials and community leaders supporting him in a post to X last week.
Reid’s campaign website now displays a “Democrats for John Reid” page alongside the “Veterans for John Reid” page, where supporters can add their name to the list of individuals who have crossed party lines to support the conservative candidate for Lieutenant Governor.
A former member of the Virginia Senate, Joe Morrissey, was among those featured giving their support for Reid. He was quoted saying: “This isn’t about party; it’s about Virginia’s future. Ghazala Hashmi has sided with Richmond insiders time and again. John Reid is willing to stand up for working families, first responders, and taxpayers. I’m glad to add my voice to this coalition.”
Former Richmond City Councilwoman Kim Gray also praised Reid’s ability to listen to opposing viewpoints and lend a helping hand, calling it a testament to his sincerity.
“I’m joining the growing list of Democrats who are choosing to vote for John Reid for Lt. Governor. While we may not agree on everything, over the many years I’ve known John I’ve seen him stand up for people who are being maligned or mistreated or abused. He did that publicly for me and my family in 2020 when so many others were too scared or partisan to help us. Other Democrats have similar stories. I know John is sincere when he speaks of being fair to everyone regardless of party. He has proven that he will be fair and listen to others and that’s why I am extending a hand in understanding and trust across the aisle to support him for this important leadership role.”
Reid’s Democratic opponent, state Sen. Ghazala Hashmi, is the subject of a recently resurfaced video being shared by several online including Reid, wherein Hashmi gave a stump speech with a megaphone positioned alongside a hand-drawn tombstone reading, “RIP Constitution Sept. 17, 1787-2025 at the hand of Trump”. Conservative commentator Greg Price also shared the video on X, noting the Virginia Democrat is standing beside an upside-down American flag.
Another Virginia race has garnered national attention with many eyes on candidate for Attorney General, Jay Jones. Leaked text messages by Jones included shocking fantasies of political violence against former Republican Speaker of the House, Todd Gilbert.
