Richmond Animal League Hosts Adoption Event For Dozens Of Dogs And Cats From Rural Virginia

Several shelters from across rural Virginia have brought dozens of their furry friends to the second annual Rescue Round Up event hosted by the Richmond Animal League in Chesterfield.

The animals came from shelters located in Dinwiddie County, Nottaway County, Sussex County, and King William County. (RELATED: Virginia Re-Enters The Power Game as a Major Player)

Larry Eason, the executive director of the Richmond Animal League said “It’s a huge win for our animal control partners that often don’t get that much traffic at their shelters. These are smaller shelters. Some of them are rural shelters, and so a good week or a good month might be one or two adoptions.”

This event could not have been held at a better time for Dinwiddie County Animal Control who brought several dogs to the event. Melissa Davis, a Dinwiddie Animal Control Officer said “Our shelter, especially right now we’re going through renovation so we’re definitely in need of space. We have about 15 kennels to work with when we usually have 30, so we’re really cut down. This is really important. It’s gonna get the dogs out of here and get them adopted.”

All of the animals who are brought to the event are already house-broken. They’re just full of energy and ready to find their forever homes. (RELATED: Miyares Urges Google to Prevent Univision From Becoming More Expensive for Virginians)

“Each of the shelters, most of them drive for about an hour just to be here, so we really get the benefit of pets that are from all over the state really that they’re all in one place, which is great,” said Lindsay Covington of the Richmond Animal League.
